The
announcement of the engagement between Lady Diana Frances Spencer and
HRH Prince Charles was made on 24th. February 1981.
The prince had kept the public guessing about who he would choose to
be his queen and the world was delighted with the demure and shy
teenaged Diana who, during the couple's first television interview,
captured the hearts of many people throughout the world. At the time
of the engagement, Charles was thirty two years old and Diana was
nineteen. The official engagement portrait is shown on the right.
